The weather is cool, right? Geographically described as being “cool, temperate, western-margin”. So what do you have to complain about? Would you prefer to be sweltering in hot, sticky tropical weather for four months of the year, or be able to get a decent night’s sleep nearly all year round? Apparently more and more tourists are coming to places like Ireland for their holidays or “cool-cations” in order to get away from the unbearable heat in their own countries, particularly regions like the Mediterranean. Maybe that’s a result of global warming.

Irish people in general have a very good reputation as being hospitable and welcoming. Probably good for tourism, apart from a lot of other things.

People of Irish heritage make up the second-largest ethnic group in the US. The American Declaration of Independence was signed by nine people with Irish ancestry.

With a history so captivating and chequered, and the ability to have dealt with hardship for centuries, pride and resilience have been rooted in our culture since the outset.

Who doesn’t like to have a good “craic”? Maybe we’re experts at taking the mickey out of ourselves first, and then others. It could be a kind of therapy for raising the spirit and making light of awkward situations. Anyway nothing beats a good few belly laughs.

One of the main reasons why being Irish is special must be the sociable nature of the people. On the whole Irish people are quite open, friendly and warm, which means that it’s fairly easy to get to know them, and this sociability is normally genuine.

Well the main language spoken in Ireland is English, and Ireland has a very good reputation for producing very highly qualified and productive professionals.

Some of the Irish landscape is absolutely stunning. Also known as the “Emerald Isle”, with its “forty shades of green”, between the mountains, the lakes, the rivers, the multi-coloured flora and all the castles, the Irish landscape truly is a sight to behold.
A lot of Irish people are serious sports fans, be it rugby, soccer, or golf etc. However the two most popular sports in Ireland are home-grown or indigenous – Hurling and Gaelic football.

Ireland has won the Eurovision song contest more times than any other country – an incredible seven times since its inception.

Apparently there are more redheads per capita in Ireland than any other country. It is said that approximately one out of ten Irish people are “foxy” or “Fanta heads” (sorry about the little jibe lads) so hooray to all those redheads out there. Curiously they said on the radio recently that redheads suffer more pain when visiting the dentist because of a certain genetic anomaly.
